The International Regulatory Development Partnership (IRDP) at the request of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) supported the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Safety Assessment Workshop, 5-9 November 2012, at the Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency (BNRA), in Sofia, Bulgaria. Mark Reinhart participated with two other IAEA and former IAEA instructors to provide information on the following: Deterministic safety analyses and codes; Probabilistic safety assessment; and Integrated Risk-Informed Decision Making (IRIDM) principles, programs, and applications for operators and for the regulator. The twenty-four participants represented the BNRA, the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), and two major technical support organizations. All in attendance listened intently and engaged in interactive discussions and participative exercises.
