On May 19-21, 2015 Sergey Katsenelenbogen and David Squarer (AdSTM/NRC-IRDP), Eric Stahl (NRC/OIP) and John Nguyen (NRC/NRR) attended Vietnam’s 2nd National Nuclear Regulatory Conference held at Da Lat City Vietnam. The Conference was organized by Vietnam’s nuclear regulatory body Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS) and was attended by members of numerous Vietnamese organizations and ministries that deal with and license nuclear technology and related environmental considerations, as well as by several foreign delegates from Russia, Japan, Korea, France, Germany, IAEA, Slovakia, Ukraine, USA, and the United Kingdom. The participants discussed the current status of licensing and regulations in Vietnam as well as the challenges that Vietnam will face during the licensing of the forthcoming new-built NPPs, research reactors, radioactive sources, and related nuclear facilities, equipment and instrumentations. The USNRC and AdSTM pledged to continue their support for VARANS in their future endeavors.
