IRDP Supports Third Kenyan Delegation to Attend Texas A&M’s Nuclear Power Institute

July 24th, 2014 —

On July 9, 2014 and July 22, 2014, Mr. David Fischer, AdSTM’s Director of the IRDP, supported Kenya’s third delegation to attend Texas A&M’s Nuclear Power Institute (NPI). This year’s NPI program focused on training in the areas of Nuclear Regulatory Affairs and Nuclear Project Procurement. During both of Mr. Fischer’s trips to Texas A&M, he spoke to the Kenyan group interested in Nuclear Regulatory Affairs. Basically, he gave them a brief overview of the NRC and IRDP and then provided them with an abbreviated version of the IRDP’s Fundamentals of Reactor Regulation (FORR) course. There were five participants in the Nuclear Regulatory Affairs group. The group seemed most interested in regulatory authority infrastructure development (e.g., laws, regulations, processes and procedures as well as with organizational structure, staffing, training, and qualification). Both of Mr. Fischer’s sessions were informal, interactive, and very well received. On July 23, 2014, Commissioner Magwood addressed the entire Kenyan delegation and he spoke on “International Trends in Nuclear Regulation – Post Fukushima”.
