IAEA/ANL Regional Workshop on Staff Development for Research Reactors

October 12th, 2012 —

On October 11, 2012, the International Regulatory Development Partnership (IRDP) provided support to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at a Research and Test Reactor Workshop held at Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois, USA. Mr. David Fischer provided a briefing to workshop attendees on the IRDP. The IRDP briefing focused on participating countries and organizations, resources and capabilities, and other IRDP activities (e.g., consulting on research reactors, siting requirements, and human resource development). The workshop was attended by twelve people from 10 different countries including Algeria, Brazil, Ghana, Indonesia, Malaysia, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, and Nigeria (observers). The objectives of this IAEA workshop were to review the recommendations of the IAEA Safety Standards relevant to training and qualification of personnel for operating organizations and regulatory bodies, introduce the best practices of existing operating organizations and regulatory bodies, provide exercises in application of the recommendations, and provide a forum for the participants to exchange their experience and good practices from their countries.
